On Sunday, June 26, Pussy Riot announced that LegalAbortion.eth would be launched to protect reproductive rights. The initiative was set up by UnicornDao, a DAO co-founded by Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot. It makes it easier to give crypto to top reproductive rights groups. Here is everything you need to know about LegalAbortion.eth, including why it is important and how it works.

What is Pussy Riot’s LegalAbortion.eth?

LegalAbortion.eth was made by Pussy Riot after the US Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe vs. Wade, which had made abortion legal all over the country. In response, Pussy Riot and UnicornDAO started LegalAbortion.eth to protect the right to have an abortion.

LegalAbortion.eth is, at its core, an Ethereum wallet that will act as a hub for donations to major reproductive rights groups. Certainly, these groups, like Planned Parenthood, do not yet have ETH addresses. So, LegalAbortion.eth makes it easier for people who own cryptocurrencies to give money in ETH and USDT. Also, the wallet can be signed by more than one person. This includes, among many other things, Pussy Riot, UnicornDAO, ppl pleasr, and UkraineDAO deployer vegsurfer.

In fact, UnicornDao will give all of the money to the organizations through Endaoment, minus a 1.5 percent fee for Endaoment. In fact, Endaoment is a public charity and a community foundation. Notably, it makes it easy to donate cryptocurrency to almost any US non-profit.

Working for reproductive rights

In short, UnicornDao will give the money that LegalAbortion.eth gave them to seven different groups. These things:

Center for Reproductive Rights – A worldwide group for human rights that works to make reproductive rights a basic human right.

Fund Texas Choice is a non-profit that helps people in Texas pay for their travel to get an abortion.

Sister Song is a national group of Black women who work for reproductive justice.

NARAL Pro-Choice America is a group that fights for abortion rights.

Fs Feminista is an international group that works for sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice.

Planned Parenthood is the best place in the US to get care for sexual and reproductive health.

URGE is a group of people of color who work to help young people in the South and Midwest get reproductive rights and justice.

“LegalAbortion.eth was made so that sending ETH and USDC anonymously is as easy and safe as possible,” tweeted UnicornDao. “It goes into the same fund and is divided between those seven organizations.”

At the time of writing, over $17,500 has been given to LegalAbortion.eth. LegalAbortion.eth and LegalAbortions.eth are the ENS where you can give money. This dApp can also be used to make a tax-deductible donation.

Who put LegalAbortion.eth together?

LegalAbortion.eth is a project of Pussy Riot and UnicornDAO, a DAO that works with them. Pussy Riot is a group of Russian artists who make political protest art. They have started several Web3 projects in the past to support a number of causes. For example, early this year, UnicornDAO released an NFT to raise money for Ukraine, which was in the middle of a war.

Also, at the beginning of this month, Pussy Riot went into the Texas state capitol building to protest the state’s policies on abortion. On the building, they put up a 45-foot banner that said “MATRIARCHY NOW.” They also said that they were going to turn the video of the event into an NFT. Also, the NFT will be sold, and the money will be used to support reproductive rights.

One member of Pussy Riot said at the time, “We believe that every person with a womb has the f***ing right to decide what they want to do with their own body.”

In general, the Web3 space has been quick to help many causes around the world. There will probably be more projects like LegalAbortion.eth in the near future. UnicornDAO has already put out a call for ideas and projects that use the Legal Abortion wallet. Authentic Autonomy, a gallery that supports reproductive rights, will also be at the DAO. All of the money from this show will also go to the groups listed above.
