In collaboration with Tezos and Polygon-based NFT platform OneOf, popular e-commerce company eBay (EBAY) has published its first collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), a hockey-themed drop.
EBay’s interest in digital treasures was formally confirmed in May, though CEO Jamie Iannone had been hinting at the idea for months.
The NFTs are priced between $10 and $1,500 and may be purchased using the same fiat payment methods as the platform’s real commodities. The first features Wayne Gretzky, the legendary hockey player.
The collection builds on OneOf’s collaboration with Sports Illustrated, which launched its own marketplace in February.
The move shows that established e-commerce platforms are still interested in blockchain. StockX, a sneaker purchasing site and eBay competitor, just established its own NFT marketplace.
With over 140 million members, eBay is the second-largest e-commerce site in the United States, after Amazon (AMZN).
